Sunnyside Estate, Mount Eliza

There are venues you photograph and venues you move through. Sunnyside Estate is the second kind. It sits above Port Phillip Bay at Mount Eliza, fifty minutes from Melbourne, and it has been a place of gathering since 1867, when it was first imagined as a summer retreat. More than a century and a half later, the bones of that idea are still here in the manicured gardens, the sweeping vines and the wide outlook over the water.

A day that unfolds

What makes the estate work on film is the sense of progression. The grounds are built from indoor and outdoor spaces that hand guests from one to the next, so a day here unfolds rather than sits still. A ceremony under open sky, a slow drift through the gardens, the light softening over the bay as the evening turns. Each transition gives the day its own rhythm, and that rhythm is what we look for when we film.

We captured Leah and Tommy's wedding at Sunnyside earlier this year, and the estate gave their day exactly the kind of editorial range we hope for: room to breathe in the wide landscapes, intimacy in the quieter corners, and a natural arc from afternoon into night. The footage we came away with reflects what the grounds offer any couple who marries here.

The hospitality

The hospitality is held by Food and Desire, the team behind the estate's kitchens, whose approach leans toward European coastal cooking with an Australian confidence. It is the kind of detail that rounds out a day rather than competing with it.

For couples drawn to the Mornington Peninsula, Sunnyside Estate is one of the region's more considered settings: heritage architecture, bay views and a layout that gives a wedding film somewhere to go.
