Melbourne in late summer has a particular dusk that lasts for almost an hour — a wide, even golden register that holds for long enough to film a ceremony without losing colour. Sophie and Jay timed the day to catch it, and the city, mostly, cooperated.

What we'll remember from Sophie and Jay's day is a room of seventy guests that, by the end of the night, behaved like a room of fifteen. Speeches were short. The dance floor opened early. The light through the western windows held until just past ten. The kind of wedding that you can tell, while you're filming it, is going to edit itself.
